Course Description

The central theme in this theoretical course is that development is within us and a contextual concept. The course will expound on the concept of development and under development and factors responsible for our situation at personal, local, national, regional and international levels. The course will enable students grasp the concept that development encompasses political, economic, and social spheres of life. 

 

Course Aim

This course aims at introducing students to the different development theories, ideologies, models, and approaches how they are influencing development trends. The course also aims at assessing the current development paradigms and their impact on development theory and practice in developing countries.

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, the students should be able to:

  • Articulate the different development theories, ideologies, models, and approaches how they are influencing development trends thus looking at the theory and practice of development knowledge
  • Have analysed global development trends and acquired strategies for better development in  developing countries
  • Have assessed the current development paradigms and acquired strategies for better development in  developing countries

·         Have developed strategies and identified development opportunities necessary to overcome the development challenges of third world countries
