Course Description

This course introduces students to the concepts of development and development policies and their relevance in the developing world. The course then examines the key issues in human development policy, such as gender, health, and urbanization. Development policy management is also explored, covering issues of governance and institutions. This is followed by an examination of the processes and methods used in forecasting and recommending development policies, their monitoring, and evaluation. The course concludes by looking at effective ways of communicating development policies.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, the students should be able to:

·         Define the term development policy and explain the types of policies and how they are made;

·         Describe the major development theories and issues in development policy; and

·         Explain how development policies are forecasted, monitored, evaluated and communicated.

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students should be able to identify pertinent development policies, evaluate the policies and also develop policy arguments and changes for decision-makers.
