Course Description

The course of public policy is a critical and salient area in public sector management given that nothing productive and sounding can be arrived at without the aspect of policy making that gives direction.  This unit will explore models of policy making, decision making models, public policy practice and enactment, strategies for policy persuasion, policy implementation, policy monitoring and evaluation among other salient issues.

COURSE AIM
The course is intended to expose students to the meaning of public policy, how public policy is made and how it is implemented.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the course, students should be able to

  • Appreciate the vitality of policy making as an aspect of achieving public and private sector goals.
  • Examine public policies as pillars of good governance
  • Understand the social relations and interactions among policy actors
  • Evaluate the environment of public policy making
