Course Description

This course on Forced Migrations and Refugees Studies introduces students to the concept of forced migrations and refugees, which has become a common phenomenon of our time. In the course of study the historical origins of the term refugee; the responses of the local, national and international community towards the large numbers of displaced masses; sparks around which refugees starts and the various measures that have been devised to tackle the refugee problem, shall be meticulously addressed.

COURSE AIM
It aims at opening the student’s understanding to issues surrounding the large numbers of people who have since time immemorial wandered this planet earth after being uprooted from their homes.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
It is expected that by the end of the course, students will

  • Have a clear understanding and perspectives of managing and preventing potential Refugee issues.
  • Demonstrate the concern to refugees and internally displaced persons (IDP’s)
  • Become and advocate for Durable solutions to refugee problems.
