Quantity Surveying

The course introduces basic history, development, concepts, and principles of quantity surveying including the nature of measurement and built systems. This course deals with measurements techniques and description of building works to prepare bills of quantities and other documents.

COURSE JUSTIFICATION/RATIONALE

To provide a theoretical and practical base to students on measurement, valuation and costing and specification of construction resources.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

•   Describe the historical background to quantity surveying and to give them the basics of quantity surveying as a profession to translate technical drawings to quantifiable work items as per the standard method of measurement with appropriate descriptions and right trade specifications
•   Explain the fundamentals of estimation and specification provide exposure to rate analysis a provide hands-on experience on estimation

A student completing the course is expected to:

 Apply various technologies used in building construction,

•  Create an understanding of manufacture and application of different construction materials.
  
• Apply the practices and procedures of international quantity surveying
