Course Description

To understand and perform various tests on concrete making materials like cement, aggregates, on fresh and hardened concrete, bricks and also on bitumen as well.

COURSE JUSTIFICATION/RATIONALE

To expose students to practical on the use of equipment to carry out and analyze experimental results for concrete making materials like cement aggregates, fresh and hardened concrete, bricks and also on bitumen.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

  •  do tests on cement as per recommended codes of practice
  •  do tests on fine and coarse aggregates according to recommended codes of Practice
  •   carry tests on fresh and hardened cement/concrete and brick as per recommended codes of practice
  •   conduct various tests on bitumen and its grades as per recommended codes

A student completing the course is expected to demonstrate the ability to:
