Course Description

The course deals with basic design principles of structural components that are used in Civil Engineering infrastructure under different possible modes of loading.

COURSE JUSTIFICATION/RATIONALE

To impart comprehensive knowledge on the design of basic structural element.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Design of basic structures like walls, columns, and foundation.
  • Bring about an understanding of the behaviour of reinforced  concrete  ,  the  design  philosophies  mix design
  • Design RCC beams and  slabs, columns and footings including structural design of piles and pile caps Design   RCC   columns   and   footings   including structural design of piles and pile caps
  •  Design RCC footings including structural design of piles and pile caps

LEARNING OUTCOMES

A student completing the course is expected todemonstrate knowledge of:

  •  Designing masonry structures like walls, columns, and foundation incorporating earthquake resistant features
  •   The behaviour of reinforced concrete, the  design  philosophies  mix design
