Course Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION

An advanced course of surface water hydrology teaching the main processes involved in water flow above the surface, measurement techniques of relevant data and models of runoff estimation. The course includes the following topics: precipitation, infiltration, hill slope hydrology, stream flow, watershed hydrology.

COURSE JUSTIFICATION

The purpose of this course is to get exposure in the field of hydrology.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

:

·        Define the processes involved in water flow above the surface, measurement techniques and models of runoff estimation.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

A student completing the course is expected to:

·         Describe the main processes involved in surface water flow

·         Estimate measurement techniques for relevant data - advantages and disadvantages

·         Formulate the mathematical equations form the physical base of surface water flow

·         Compute different hydrological variables using models

·         Analyze a collection of published scientific papers on extreme flash flood events
