Course Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course introduces the basic principles of modeling plate and shell structures, fundamental theories of plates and shells and the analytical and numerical tools for analysis of these structures. Students will learn the fundamental behaviour of plate and shell components under static and dynamic loads.

 

COURSE JUSTIFICATION

To expose the students to the analyses of plate-bending structures and shell structures. 

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

·        Explain the importance of research.

·        Apply appropriate methods in carrying out research.

A student completing the course is expected to:

·        State the assumptions and recognize the governing equations of plate and shell theories

·        Describe the behaviour of plate and shell structures

·        Apply the theories, analytical and numerical tools for the analysis of plate and shell structures under static loads
