Course Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course introduces the scientific concepts of engineering materials and their characterization. Studies the principal materials used for engineering purposes with special attention to properties and their importance to the engineer.

 

COURSE JUSTIFICATION/RATIONALE

The course introduces several advanced concepts and topics in the rapidly evolving field of material science. Students are expected to develop comprehension of the subject and to gain scientific understanding regarding the choice and manipulation of materials for desired engineering applications.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

·        Establish the science of key engineering materials.

·        Know the definition and distinguishing properties of engineering materials.

·        Get hands-on experience in testing of engineering materials.

·        Acquire knowledge on the application of materials in Civil Engineering
