Course Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this course, students are trained to acquire knowledge and skills of planning, selecting constituent concrete materials, mixing concrete, placing it, curing it and ensuring good field performance.

 

COURSE JUSTIFICATION/RATIONALE

 

This course will provide the required knowledge on materials, properties, mix design, types, strength and durability of concrete

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

·        Acquire knowledge on the types and properties of concrete

·        Outline aggregates and their properties

·        Discuss concrete mix design

·        Perform tests on concrete mixes for different uses.

A student on completing this course is expected to:

·        Demonstrate an understanding of the properties of concrete.

·        Give an account of the manufacture of cements used in concrete.

·        Identify and classify aggregates suitable for making concrete.

·        Design and analyse tests for concrete mixes for different uses.

·        Supervise the construction of concrete structures.
