Course Description

Course Description

This courses introduces students to the principles of calculus for functions of one or several variables and the underpinning theoretical foundations of mathematics. The course gives the students a strong mathematical base to be able to tackle computer problems.

Course Objectives:

The aims of the course are:

•  To provide students with a mathematical base that is to be used to solve computer science problems

•  To improve the problem solving skills of students

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

·         Solve simple problems in single and multivariable calculus and apply this area of calculus to solve selected problems arising in other fields of science, engineering, medicine, economics, finance and the social sciences.

·         Demonstrate knowledge of single and multivariable calculus and its theoretical underpinnings by constructing logical, clearly presented and justified arguments incorporating deductive reasoning.
