Course Content and Outline

On successful completion of this unit, students should be able to:

1.      Explain the different terminologies and concepts underlying a database, especially the relational paradigm

2.      Distinguish between the characteristics of the different database paradigms

3.      Recommend the most suitable database paradigm to an organization that wants to set up a database

4.      Design and develop a database at the conceptual, logical and physical level

5.      Give the advantages of the database over the file-based system

Explain the different components and functions of a database management system.
