Course Description


This course deals with alternative energy sources including solar energy, wind energy, and

hydropower. It also covers the optimization of energy use in buildings.

COURSE JUSTIFICATION/RATIONALE:

To familiarize the students about the utilization of advance alternative sources of energy technologies for thermal and electrical needs with environmental merits.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the end of this course, the student should be able to:

  •   Analyze energy technologies from a systems perspective.
  •   Articulate the technical challenges for each of the renewable sources and
  •     Discuss  economic,  technical  and  sustainability issues  involved  in  the  integration of renewable energy systems.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

A student on completing this course is expected to analyze and design energy systems to

  • supply the electricity/heat/cooling requirements using wind energy, hydro and solar energy.
