Diabetes has emerged as a global health concern, with its prevalence escalating due to lifestyle changesand poor dietary habits. The management of diabetes necessitates a multifaceted approach, includingmedication, diet, exercise, and monitoring. In recent years, there has been growing interest in thepotential of phytochemical compounds derived from edible plants to aid in diabetes management. Thiscomprehensive review explores the antidiabetic effects of various phytochemicals found in commonlyconsumed fruits, vegetables, and other plant parts. Emphasis is placed on understanding the mechanismsby which these compounds exert their effects on blood sugar levels, insulin sensitivity, and oxidativestress. Additionally, the review discusses the nutritional benefits of phytochemical-rich diets and theirimplications for diabetes prevention and management. Future research directions and recommendationsfor integrating phytochemical-rich foods into dietary guidelines are also addressed.
