Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Contraception among Women of Reproductive Age in Bugembe Health Centre IV, Jinja District Eastern Uganda
This study assessed the knowledge, attitude and practice of contraception among women ofreproductive age in Bugembe Health Centre IV, Jinja district eastern Uganda. This was a crosssectionalstudy. Quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection were utilized. Aftercollecting the data, the principal investigator checked the completed questionnaires forconsistency and completeness. Data were coded, cleaned and entered into the computerusing Microsoft Excel and then analyzed using SPSS version 20. The findings were thensummarized in the form of text, tables and graphs. According to the study, the majority ofthe study participants had heard of family planning (93.1%), knew condoms as the mostcommon method of contraception (33.4%), got information from a health worker (43.1%) andget family planning services from a health centre (88.4%) The majority of the studyparticipants in this study had a poor knowledge score (51.9%) while 48.1% had a goodknowledge score. The majority held the opinion that family planning is beneficial (83.4%),would support a family member or friend to use family planning (80.9%) and did not find itdifficult to access family planning (85.9%) The present study also found out that majority ofthe women had never used family planning (63.0%), child spacing was cited as the mostcommon reason for using family planning among users (73.1%) and wanting to have a childwas the most common reason among family planning non-users. The attitude ofreproductive-age women is good however there is poor knowledge and practice oncontraceptives.
