Knowledge, attitudes and practices about family planning methods among women aged 18–35 years in Ishaka, Bushenyi district, Uganda
This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices of family planningamong women aged 18-35 years in Ishaka, Bushenyi District, Western Region ofUganda.The study was conducted in Ishaka, Bushenyi District, Western Region of Uganda,located in Igara District, approximately 62 km (39 mi) by road west of Mbarara, the largestcity in the sub-region.It is about 6 km (4 mi), west of Bushenyi, the location of the districtheadquarters.The target population consisted of women between 18 and 35 years old fromIshaka town, Bushenyi district, Western Uganda, who were selected according to thecriteria i.e. inclusion and exclusion criteria explained below . As for this study, it also aimsto open the way towards better understanding and use of family planning among womenaged 18-35. The results showed that 147 subjects were sampled and 145 subjects hadknowledge about family planning and 2 subjects did not know anything about familyplanning.In general, women aged 18 to 35 years in Ishaka, Bushenyi district haveknowledge about using contraceptive methods although there is still a lack of knowledgeabout available methods, especially emergency contraception. Women aged 18 to 35 yearsin Ishaka, Bushenyi district had good attitudes towards the use of contraceptives,although a few had negative attitudes towards the use of contraceptives.
