Factors Affecting Depression and its Effects on Health Among Nursing Students at the Teaching Hospital of Kampala International University

The Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) was used to assess the prevalence and extent ofdepression among nursing students at Kampala International University. The study involved443 students, using both quantitative and qualitative data. The results showed that mildmood disturbance was prevalent at 17.83%, borderline clinical depression at 8.35, moderatedepression at 17.83%, severe depression at 7.00%, and extreme depression at 1.13%. Theprevalence of depression was found to be 25.96%, seven times the World HealthOrganization's estimate. The study underscores the need to address the aggravating factorsof depression among nursing students
