KIU Rangers Tip Off NBL 2025 Against UCU Lady Canons on Friday Evening

By Isaac Akugizibwe

KIU, Main Campus -KIU Rangers will tip off their 2025 National Basketball League campaign at 7 p.m. this Friday at the Lugogo Indoor Arena with an exciting clash against  UCU Lady Canons.

The Rangers finished fourth last season after losing 3-1 to the Mukono-based Lady Canons in the semifinals. In addition to seeking revenge for that defeat, Julius Lutwama’s Rangers will aim to start the new season on a high note.

Despite the departure of Mary Moses Amaniyo, who moved to the U.S. late last year, KIU Rangers have retained most of their core players, including team captain Ines Kanyamuneza, the team's standout player from last season.

Kanyamuneza’s deputy, Sharon Kirabo, has steadily improved her game over the past three seasons, and 2025 could be her year to establish herself as a true basketball trailblazer.

Similarly, Fildauce Namuleme, the team’s most reliable ball handler, will be crucial for Lutwama this season. Her pace, agility, stamina, and dribbling will be essential in challenging the Lady Canons.

KIU Rangers will also be bolstered by new signing Leticia Awori, who is seen as a potential replacement for the formidable Mary Moses Amaniyo.

With her size and strength, Awori has the potential to dominate in the paint, but fans will be eager to see if she can fill Amaniyo’s shoes.

Patricia Alado and Elizabeth Akol showed flashes of brilliance last season but failed to fully meet expectations. They will look to defy the odds and help the Rangers overcome UCU, a team that has proven troublesome for them in the past.

After facing the UCU Lady Canons on Friday, KIU Rangers will play  UPDF Lady Tomahawks on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, before taking on KCCA Leopards on Friday, April 4. The Rangers will then face the Nkumba Lady Marines just two days later.
