Al Hajj Dr. Hassan Basajjabalaba

Al Hajj Dr. (Hon.) Hassan Basajjabalaba is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Kampala International University (KIU), providing visionary leadership and strategic oversight for the University's long-term growth, governance, and institutional development. As the Founder of KIU, he has played a transformative role in expanding access to higher education, advancing research and innovation, and strengthening the University's contribution to national and continental development.

A distinguished educationist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, Dr. Basajjabalaba has dedicated his career to empowering individuals through education and social investment. Under his leadership, Kampala International University has grown into one of Africa's leading private universities, graduating more than 80,000 students from over 25 African countries, while providing scholarships and bursaries to nearly 30,000 students. He also founded Kampala International University in Tanzania and has championed the development of world-class teaching, research, healthcare, and science infrastructure.

Beyond education, Dr. Basajjabalaba is an accomplished business leader with investments spanning agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality, real estate, and commerce. His commitment to social entrepreneurship has led to the creation of thousands of employment opportunities and significant investments in healthcare through the Kampala International University Teaching and Research Hospital.

His outstanding contributions to education and leadership have earned him international recognition, including an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration and Leadership and the African Educationist of the Year (2024–2025) award. Through visionary leadership, lifelong learning, and an unwavering commitment to human capital development, Dr. Basajjabalaba continues to shape the future of higher education and socio-economic transformation across Africa.
