KIU, Main Campus - Kampala International University in partnership with Academic City is pleased to commence a 3-track certification programme in Advanced Web Application Development. This Programme will be coordinated by the Centre of Excellence for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CoEEI), which serves as Kampala International University’s Innovation Gateway into the Society and the Industry.

The Track 1, 2, and 3 certifications will be completed in 6 weeks respectively. Therefore, the 3-tracks will be completed in 18 weeks. According to CoEEI, there are immediate opportunities for high-paying remote jobs in Advanced Web Applications Development using Django/Python Framework for candidates that have undergone this Programme.

Track-1 (Level I Certificate): 6 Weeks!

Level – 1 Certificate introduces students to the general framework of a web-based database-driven application. Students are introduced to Python, a Relational database (i.e. PostgreSQL), and the Django framework. This introductory course shall cover all the fundamental layers in building an advanced web-based application using Django Framework.  The following shall be taught using a hands-on approach, during this certification level. 

• Introduction to HTML and CSS.
• Introduction to Python.
• Introduction to Relational Databases (with a focus on PostgreSQL).
• Introduction to Django, a powerful open-source web application development framework.
• A practical introduction to database design. Building up a database for a web application.
• A practical introduction to the design and development of user interfaces for web-based applications.
• Introduction to applications design in Django framework.
• A terminal project implementation of a practical web application using Python and PostgreSQL in the Django framework (e.g. web-based billing application).

Track-2 (Level – II Certificate): 6 Weeks!

Level – 2 Certificate focuses on developing effective and efficient client-side web interfaces for synchronous and asynchronous web applications. The focus shall mainly be on JavaScript and building effective databases with advanced techniques such as AJAX. The following shall be taught, using a hands-on approach, at this level of the certification programme. 

• Extensive study of JavaScript for developing advanced user interfaces.
• Management of data (i.e. uploads, transfers and exchanges) between Excel Spreadsheets and a relational database schema (PostgreSQL) using Python.
• Hands-on AJAX implementation and Integration of AJAX with Django.
• Data manipulation between databases and web applications with both client-side and server-side implementation.
• Advanced Data Visualization in Web Applications using JavaScript and Chart Library.
• A terminal project-based implementation of how to build advanced tabbed Web applications using Python, JavaScript, PostgreSQL, and Django framework. 

Track-3 (Level– III Certificate): 6 Weeks!

Level - III Certificate covers advanced topics concerning building effective server-side applications utilizing advanced topics such as multi-dimensional data structures (Cubes), and integration of Business Intelligence.  The main focus of the course shall be the Code Management Framework with Django (DCMF), a powerful extended Django framework built by Academy City.  The DCMF expedites the development of web applications through collaborative and online development.

In a highly participative hands-on approach, the following shall be taught in this final level of the 3-Track Certification program.

• Team-work: Git and GitHub
• Multi-Dimensional Cube.
• Business Intelligence.
• Introduction to DCMF.
• Advanced Data Processing for Research.
• Developing Web application using DCMF:
• A terminal Real-life high-order research project implementation.

Delivery mode: The medium of instruction is English. Learning involves 4 Contact Hours, Monday to Friday (9:00 AM to 1:00 PM), totaling 120 hours of Instruction & Learning. 

Pre-requisite Knowledge & Skills: Basic background in Computer Programming, and Databases. A basic background in Web Applications Development is an added advantage. You can apply to enroll directly in Level – II or Level – III, but you will be subject to an entry exam.

Condition for the award of the Certificate: 90% attendance is a must-fulfill condition.

Post-Certification Opportunities: Immediate opportunities for High-Paying Remote Jobs in Advanced Web Applications Development using the Django/Python Framework.

Admission Condition and Payment Terms:

Admission and Registration are only after receiving the first payment installment. Application is by making a minimum of 50% payment by 9th February 2024. Classes Commence on 12th February 2024. The remaining payment must be made by Week 9 and Week 3 of the programme, for Payment Options 1 and 2, respectively.
