COVID-19 Updates: 155 New Cases and Two More COVID-19 Deaths Announced

KIU, Western Campus – The Ministry of Health, in its daily COVID-19 update, has announced two new COVID-19 deaths and 155 new cases from 4,513 samples tested on August 26, bringing the cumulative number of infections in the country to 2,679.

The two deaths are of a 58-year old man from Kapchorwa district and another 59-year old man from Mbale district.

Of the registered 155 new cases, 101 are alerts from communities whereas 39 are contacts of previously confirmed cases.

The contact and alerts breakdown is as follows; 71 are from Kampala, 12 from Kikuube, 12 from Jinja, 8 from Jinja, 8 from Wakiso, 6 from Mbarara, 6 from Mukono, 5 from Tororo, 4 from Gulu, 3 from Kitgum, 3 from Pader, 2 from Kisoro, 2 from Luweero, 2 from Buikwe, and one each from Bundibugyo, Busia, Isingiro, Kapchorwa, Kasese, Kiryandongo, Kyegegwa and Mbale.

9 health workers from Kampala (6), Wakiso (2) and Jinja (1) were also infected and 5 truck drivers who were tested from the borders as well as a returnee from the United Arab Emirates.

14 foreign truck drivers who tested positive were not allowed into the country and this means that the number of recoveries stands at 1,268 as of today.
