COVID-19 Updates: 2 New Deaths Registered, 99 New Cases Bring Uganda’s Total to 2,362

The Ministry of Health has announced another 99 COVID-19 transmissions in Uganda as well as 2 new deaths from the 3,457 samples tested on August 23.

The two deaths are of a 35-year old female trader from Kikuubo, Kampala and a 36-year old male from Kisenyi, also in Kampala.

Of the 99 new cases, 84 were alerts and contacts, with Kampala registering 49 of these cases. The rest are 8 from Kikuube, 5 from Gulu, 4 from Sironko, 3 from Lamwo while Lira, Luweero, Tororo and Yumbe registered 2 each. The remaining 7 cases of alerts and contacts are from Mbale, Abim, Amuru, Bundibugyo, Kotido, Kiryandongo and Namisindwa districts.

4 Ugandan truck drivers, 6 returnees (5 from Saudi Arabia and 1 from Kenya) and 5 health workers from Kampala (2), Mbale, Kikuube and Gulu districts complete the case count.

27 foreign truck drivers who tested positive were barred from entering the country.

This means that Uganda has now registered 2,362 cases of COVID-19 so far, with the 1,248 recoveries meaning that there are 1,092 active cases of COVID-19 in the country.
