COVID-19 Updates: A Report on the State of COVID-19 Cases in Uganda

KIU Main Campus – On 15th April 2020, the Ministry of Health announced that 1,032 samples tested were found negative for COVID-19. As per this moment, the confirmed cases still stand at 55. Total number of recoveries is 20. All these samples were taken to the Uganda Virus Research Institute(UVRI) in Entebbe which is the main hub for testing in Uganda. 

According to a press release signed by Dr. Henry G Mwebesa, who is the Director General Health Service, "551 samples were taken from truck drivers at border points while 481 samples were from individuals under institutional quarantine and contacts in the country."

Apart from the confirmed cases, there's a total of 1361 confirmed contacts that have been listed to date. Of these, 1063 have completed the 14 day mandatory follow up period and are expected to be dropped. 298 contacts are still being followed up by surveillance teams and a total of 181 contacts are under institutional quarantine.
