KIU, Main Campus - Bishop Jjumba of Masaka Diocese has contracted COVID-19 and is currently receiving treatment at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

A source in the diocese said on Wednesday that Bishop Jjumba was initially rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital before being referred to Mulago.

Fr. Ronald Mayanja, the Masaka Diocesan Communications Director confirmed these reports and said that doctors are doing their best to save the Bishop's life as they pray to God.

“It’s true the Bishop is sick and is currently at Mulago National Referral Hospital, but you shouldn’t cause alarm to the public," Fr. Mayanja said.

Alongside the Bishop, several other COVID-19 patients were confirmed on Wednesday, that is the Ministry of Health recorded 1,199 new cases of COVID-19 and 12 deaths, the highest ever recorded in the country.

Out of the 12 deaths, 9 occurred between 4th and 5th December while the other 3 occurred on Wednesday.

As days pass by, the number of cases keep increasing thus we need to continue to observe the set guidelines to rule out chances of contracting the virus.
