KIU, Main Campus-Rt.Hon.Ivan Kazora, the speaker of the 19th KIU Guild Union has summoned all college and school representatives for a sitting on Friday 7th October 2022. This will be their second sitting since they assumed office in April this year.

Several issues are expected on the order paper and according to the speaker, accountability for recent guild union activities and planning for the forthcoming activities like the fresher's ball are top on the list.

The fresher's ball which is a traditional ceremony for the official welcoming and initiation of new students has not happened for the last three years due to disruptions caused by the unpopular COVID-19 pandemic. It usually happens at the end of the trade bazaar but this time round, it is likely to come at a very different time. Friday's sitting is expected to resolve the events possibility to happen as well as the date.

Considered a mega event, the Freshers' Ball is usually characterized by absolute entertainment from students and invited top entertainers like musicians and DJs. In the past, the event has been graced by some of Uganda's finest, including stand-up comedians like Salvador Idringi, artists like Jose Chameleon, Eddie Kenzie, Sheeba Karungi, Rema Namakula among others.

The August house will also deliberate on the inter-cultural associations' football tournament and other different student activities as the semester heads midway. College representatives have been tasked to consult their constituents to submit other issues that they would like the guild union to look into.

"I've asked MPS to talk to their people in various colleges to give views and issues that they want us to tackle so that we can include them on the order paper," KIU Guild Union speaker, Ivan Kazora disclosed on Monday morning.

The Guild Union will also use Friday's sitting to also evaluate the performance of this year's trade bazaar that happened between 29th August and 10th September 2022. The two-week event was heavily disrupted by rainfall and parliament will seek a detailed report from the trade minister.
