General News: Government Gifts COVIDEX Developer Prof. Patrick Ogwang Five Acres of Land

KIU, Main Campus - The government of Uganda, represented by the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) on Wednesday, 21st July 2021, gifted COVIDEX developer Prof. Patrick Ogwang five acres of land in Soroti and a 10- year tax holiday licence to set up a Jena Herbals LTD factory.

Jena Herbals Ltd-factory are the producers of COVIDEX, which is approved by Uganda's National Drug Authority (NDA). COVIDEX drug is effective in treatment of COVID-19 symptoms and was recently approved by NDA.

UIA, whose goal is to support local investors set up and register their businesses, has handed over five acres and a 10-year tax holiday licence expected to aid Prof. Ogwang in developing and expanding the production of COVIDEX.

Evelyn Anite, the State Minister for Investment said the government will look into Prof. Ogwang's investment plan and provide any additional support he may need to make COVIDEX “go international.”

“Our focus is on supporting local investors. We believe that our country can be built by ourselves,” State Minister Anite said.

With the factory set up in Soroti Industrial Park, the region is set to harvest plenty in terms of employment and income in general thus improving the standards of living of Soroti residents and her neighbors as the drug "goes international".
