KIU, Main Campus – Did you know that the World Health Organization has a WhatsApp Number that can give you all the facts you need on COVID-19?
WHO launched the dedicated messaging service approximately two weeks ago in English, Arabic, French and Spanish. The app can be accessed by over 2 billion people around the world, hence enabling WHO to get accurate information, “directly into the hands of the people that need it.”
KIU's Community (local and international) is encouraged to use this platform to get access to factual information about COVID-19. According to WHO, the platform is relevant to anyone, from “government leaders to health workers and family friends.”
Further, WHO advised that to access the link on WhatsApp, simply type, “Hi”, “Hola”, “Salut” or "مرحبا" to “activate the conversation, prompting a menu of options that can help answer their questions about COVID-19.”
The app was developed in collaboration with Praekelt.org, using Turn machine learning technology.
