KIU, Main Campus - After making his debut in the first two games of the National Basketball League (NBL) season, KIU Titans new boy, Ivan Otyek is beginning to feel at home.
He has praised the team's organisation, something he also says played the biggest role in his conviction to join the Kansanga outfit.
Otyek joined KIU for a Bachelor of Mass Communication during the 2022 January intake and was immediately called up to the University's basketball team.
"Life with the Titans is very easy though there is a lot of competition which is very good for a winning team. It drives a player to better themselves," he says.
Before joining KIU and Titans, Otyek was approached by several teams and Universities who wanted him to play for them butnone could offer anything close to what KIU was offering - a conducive learning environment in both academics and on the basketball court as well as a sports scholarship.
"I was attracted to the Titans basically because of the team's organization and also to get a good academics experience fromit being one of the best universities in our land," he discloses.
The Titans have lost their first two fixtures to UCU canons and Power leaving the fans doubtful of the team's ambitions thisseason.
Nevertheless, Otyek is confident that results will soon come their way and that they still have potential to win it all.
"I am a hard worker, I will do my best to better the team defensively. I am ready to give in more than 100%," he says.
Who is Otyek?
Born on 4 April ,1998, Ivan Otyek is a Ugandan professional basketball player who plays as a small forward. He went to Nyakasura School in Fortportal for O'level and Seeta High School, Green Campus for A'level before joining KIU.
He has played basketball at all levels of education and has had scholarship's throughout in reward for his outstanding talentand skills.
Otyek is an ardent fan of NBA star Gianis Antetokounmpo something that resonates with his life long dream,"to play in any NBA team."
