On Friday, November 15th, 2024, Hon. Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo, the first female DPP of Uganda, delivered a mentorship lecture to KIU School of Law (SOL) students focused on the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) And Criminal Justice in Uganda.

In her compelling address, Justice Jane reflected that the office of the DPP is established under Article 120 (1) of the Constitution of Uganda and for one to become a DPP; he or she is appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Public Service Commission, with the approval of the Parliament.

“The person must be qualified to be a judge of the High Court, the DPP heads and is in charge of criminal prosecutions, has to take into account the public interests, the interests of the administration of Justice and the need to prevent abuse of legal process as provided for by Art 120 (5) of the constitution of Uganda,” she added

In closing, Justice Jane emphasized that integrity and empathy are the key principles that should guide the practice and interpretation of the law, money should not be the only goal of studying law but to help humanity and put God above all.

According to Dr. Esther Kisubi, Dean SOL, the school was honored by the visit and lecture of the DPP of Uganda.
