Jacob Musiimenta declared winner in Thursday’s Guild Presidential Poll

KIU, Main Campus - The Guild Union Electoral commission has disclosed that Jacob Musiimenta beat Ronald Karuhanga with a margin of five votes to be declared winner of the 2020-21 Guild presidential poll held on Thursday 10th December 2020.

The Guild President elect collected 17 votes together with his running mate, Allen Nakintu from the school of natural and applied sciences while Ronald Karuhanga and running mate Owomugisha Shillah were voted by only 12 MPs out of 29 eligible voters who make up the Guild parliament.

The electoral commission through their public relations officer confirmed that the election was free and fair though there still time for any impending complaints up to 2pm on Friday 11th December 2020. 

The president elect is expected to produce a list of his potential cabinet before 2pm today so that they can be scrutinized by the electoral commission vetting committee. Abaho Sandrah, a member of the committee told this website that the vetting exercise is expected to begin at 2 pm today.

According to the electoral commission roadmap, the newly elected students’ leaders will assume office on Sunday 13th December 2020 after a handover and swearing in ceremony set to begin at 2 pm that day.

Once he assumes office, Jacob Musiimenta will become the first Guild President to come from the school of law in four years. He will also be the fourth consecutive gentleman in the office since 2016.
