KIU, Western Campus – Adam Nsamba has always been a compassionate person, he says. That’s why it hurts him to see people die because they can’t even afford the basic medical care services.

And Nsamba now has the keys to permit him to carry out his dream after he is conferred upon his Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery at KIU’s 26th Graduation Ceremony, which will be held at KIU Main Campus in Kansanga on November 11.

“There are a lot of people in the general population who can't afford health care and this at times hurts me to see my fellow Ugandan in such a state,” Nsamba says.

“Now that am here (graduate) I want to at least reach out to as many people as possible availing them minimum health care,” he adds.

Reaching this milestone has not been easy for Nsamba, and he says the reasons behind him successfully completing his Medicine Degree are a combination of desire and hard work.

“The main reasons for my success are hard work, consistency and a zeal for gaining knowledge.  I would not be here if I didn't get out of bed at weird hours to read an extra leaflet plus the ward rounds and the day-in day-out resilience through hard times when everything seemed like it was too hard,” he reveals.

Nsamba says he will take away many memories from KIU. Apart from his Medicine Degree, he says his role as rugby manager alongside his mate Joshua Mwebaze when the KIU rugby team earned gold against Mbarara and Nkozi universities will forever be etched in his memory.

Nsamba, who says he wants to complete his internship and pursue a Master’s Degree in Medicine, extends his gratitude to people who aided him through his academic journey.

“I would like to thank my mother and father who were definitely at the helm of this whole process, I would not be here without their input,” he says.

He also thanks his brother Mubarak, sisters Mai, Hawa and Zuzu as well as former Case Clinic proprietor Dr. Sebbaale Kato, who mentored him right from childhood.

Nsamba advises his fellow graduands to be calm and patient no matter how hard the situation is.
