KIU, Main Campus – Wilson Amanya, the 2018/2019 Guild Union Prime Minister, currently employed with the Uganda Police Force has disclosed the secret behind his tremendous ascendence. Amanya attributes his success to the connections he made during his tenure as a student leader.
While in leadership, Amanya was able to engage with many great people in the country. Most notably, he was able to host King Oyo at his home in Kyankwanzi via his leadership platform. He says this helped him to enhance his social capital.
“I hosted His Majesty King Oyo of Tooro and his entourage on a private visit at our home in Kyankwanzi and this was very inspirational to me and the people of Kyankwanzi because my late Dad Wilson Kakuru invited family, friends and government officials to welcome the King at home,” Amanya, who works in the office of the under Secretary-General of police says.
He graduated with a Bachelors of Procurement and Logistics Management in 2019 and while still at KIU, he was also the MP of the College of Economics and Management Sciences and after completing university, he worked with the Food And Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on a 3 - month contract.
“I then ventured into politics and stood for District Youth counselorship in Kyankwanzi but I didn’t win the elections which was quite unfortunate at the time," Wilson says.
He says he draws inspiration from his late father, Wilson Kakuru whom he says taught him very much about life. He loves debating, activism, politics and reading.
And, surely from the determination, hard work and resilience Amanya has, he is on a slow but steady journey to the top.
