On 14th September 2023, Kampala International University (KIU) and Academy City signed a 5-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Academy City, aimed at building and enhancing capacity of the young labour force in Uganda, for Uganda and the global market.
The MoU will explore several areas of partnership including: - Short hands-on certification courses in Computer Programming, Mathematics and Algorithms Design, Data Analysis, Finance - Valuation- Trading, among many others; Providing immediate industrial employment to outstanding students upon completion of the jointly taught skills-based courses; Support in Research activities of KIU’s academic staff and graduate research students; Initiate and jointly execute various research projects.
On the side of KIU, the MoU was signed by the Vice Chancellor, KIU, Professor Mouhamad Mpezamihigo, and witnessed by the Acting DVC Research Innovation, Consultancy and Extension (RICE), Professor Durraiz Rehman. The founder of Academy City, Dr Amos Baranes from Israel, signed on behalf of Academy City, witnessed by Ms Brenda Asio, the Academy City Secretary. Mr. Daniel Opio, a Senior Web Architect from Academy City was also present.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof Mouhammad Mpezamihigo thanked Academy City, for recognizing KIU’s potential to actualize such aspirations for human capital development.
“I welcome you to KIU, and I assure you that the University will do all that is possible, to realize this mutually shared goal of building our human resource capacity, not only for the local market but also on the global stage. We are pleased to learn that you identified as a Partner in such an endeavour”, said Professor Mouhamad Mpezamihigo.
On his part, the Academy City founder implored either side to do their best to realize the immense potential in this partnership.
“I am pleased to be signing this MoU with KIU. Uganda is such a beautiful country, and I believe together we can join efforts and prepare our most valuable resource, that is, the young people. Let us prepare them for opportunities that exist beyond their borders”, said Dr. Amos Baranes.
Others in attendance included; Assoc Professor Kareyo Margaret, the ADVC RICE; Dr Hashim Ibrahim Bisallah, the Director RICE; Dr Ademola Olaniyan, the Deputy Director RICE; Mrs Judith, the Campus Administrator, and Dr Yahya Umar, from the Centre of Excellence for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
Academy City's headquarters are situated in Israel, and it conducts operations in multiple countries, including the United States, Ivory Coast, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Uganda. The collaboration between Academy City and KIU represents a significant milestone as it marks the first-ever partnership of this magnitude between a Ugandan university and Academy City.
