KIU, Western Campus – As students around the country struggle with what to do with the extra time they have at home, Bruno Mwebesa, a final year student of Bachelor of Clinical Medicine and Community Health (BCMCH) appreciates it all. In fact, he says the lockdown couldn’t have come at a better time.

By the time President Yoweri Museveni announced the closure of all institutions of learning on 20th March, Mwebesa says he was in a race against time to cover all his course content in time for the Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) for BCMCH special class, which was set to kick off on 4th May.

“I had really fallen behind on the schedule for the CATs after about five months of special classes. I did not think I would cover all the content in time,” Mwebesa, who is self-isolating in his rental room in Ishaka Town said.

He had to cover nine course units including anaesthesiology, dermatology, dental, Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT), ophthalmology, orthopaedics, radiology, TB-HIV/leprosy and research.

“This holiday has brought me ample time to pay close attention to these courses. I can tell you for me I have not had a holiday,” Mwebesa said.

He advised fellow students to use this time reasonably because when school reopens, they will have no excuses if they do not do well in their exams, because they have had more than enough time.

Mwebesa is also set to appear in a BBC documentary about the Bachelor of Clinical Medicine course at KIU.
