KIU, Main Campus-In anticipation of the 13th edition of the Pepsi-sponsored University League, KIU's football team is setting its sights high after a prolonged hiatus caused by COVID-19 disruptions. The team, led by the dedicated Coach Geoffrey Akabwai, is brimming with optimism and a burning desire to make their mark on the league.

After months of uncertainty and speculations following the league's postponement from March, KIU is ready to hit the pitch with unwavering determination. Coach Akabwai has made it clear that this time, they won't settle for anything less than excellence.

KIU finds itself placed in Group D alongside formidable opponents: Uganda Christian University (UCU), Kumi, and Busitema University. Their journey in the league begins with an away match against Busitema University scheduled for Saturday, September 23rd, 2023.

One standout feature of this season's KIU football team is the infusion of fresh talent. Except for Opio Aleleu, all players are newcomers to the squad. Despite this, the team has been diligently honing their skills during joint training sessions over the past two weeks. Coach Akabwai is thrilled with the promising chemistry among the players, attributing it to their attentiveness and outstanding attitude toward training.

"The players are adapting well to the style of football and systems I want them to play. They are fully committed, and their dedication is palpable," remarked Coach Akabwai.

KIU has a lingering thirst for its first University League trophy, and this season presents a golden opportunity. Coach Akabwai and his team are determined not just to participate but to compete at the highest level. Their primary goal is to advance from the group stage, with their eyes set firmly on the coveted trophy.

As the 24-team competition kicks off, KIU remains an underdog in search of their maiden victory in the league. However, with the sensational and highly motivated squad that Coach Geoffrey Akabwai has meticulously assembled, dreams of triumph are alive and well. This could very well be the season when the KIU Football Team achieves the extraordinary and makes history.
