KIU, Main Campus - The Acting Director for Traffic Police Basil Mugisha, has called out to all road users to ensure road safety and observe the set traffic guidelines ahead of the festive season.

Speaking at Media Centre in Kampala on Monday, Mugisha announced the revival of the Fika Salama operation. The operation was initiated by Uganda Police in collaboration with Uganda National Roads Authority and Ministry of Works and Transport and several health facilities in response to the increased road accidents.

Addressing the media, he revealed that the festive season is filled with excitement resulting into recklessness as some road users drive under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

“It is Christmas season and soon it will be new year’s day. Traffic flow will be heavy as people travel to their villages to celebrate while others will be doing business,” he added to say.

Therefore, he advised road users to observe the COVID-19 directives and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that include wearing masks and a limited number of passengers to control the spread of Coronavirus.

Those caught violating SOPs and traffic rules and regulations will be dealt with.

"People who commit serious offences will be taken to court while offenders who flout COVID-19 SOPs should be handed over to CID for prosecution,”he said.
