KIU, Main Campus - Webometrics, the largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions in the world since 2004, has once again in January 2023, ranked Kampala International University (KIU) as the leading private university in Uganda rankings, and 2nd Ranked University overall in Uganda second only to Makerere University.

This ranking has been consistent for the past year. Mbarara University of Science and Technology came third while Kyambogo University and Gulu University took the fourth and fifth positions respectively. In the East Africa Region, KIU is ranked fourth, after Makerere University (1st), University of Nairobi (2nd), and University of Dar-es-Salaam (3rd), again the leading private university in the East Africa region.

When the Vice Chancellor was asked to comment on the latest ranking, he had this to say, “Maintaining this ranking for more than a year is an indication of how a private university is delivering on all fronts, including teaching, research, innovation and community engagement. We are delighted once again to be the leading private university and a reflection of KIU's resilience and persistence through the hard times. We will increase our focus and determination to do things in the best way possible. Our target is to continue to produce relevant, appropriate and global graduates skilled and entrepreneurial enough to survive the current job market scarcity and empower them to be job creators where jobs are unavailable”.

He added, “We have set the pace and hopefully we can help other institutions to benchmark with us to make things happen at their end”.

Congratulations to all the KIU teams of staff, students, parents, promoters University Council, the Board of trustees and all other key stakeholders for this achievement. Let us strive to get to 1st position sooner rather than later.
