KIU once again, has been ranked as the best private university, and the 2nd best overall out of over 60 Universities in Uganda. This is highlighted in the latest July 2023 Webometrics Ranking of the World’s Universities. In Africa, KIU was among the Top 100 universities, taking the 61st position. KIU and Makerere Universities were the only Ugandan universities ranked in the Top 100 universities in Africa.

In the East African Region, KIU was ranked 5th, after the University of Nairobi (1st), Makerere University (2nd), University of Dar-es-Salaam (3rd), and Kenyatta University (4th), again remaining the leading private university in the East Africa region and ahead of all the other public universities except for the four as listed above.

The KIU Vice Chancellor remarked, “What an achievement it is? I thank our staff and students, who have contributed to this success. We will aim higher as we move forward”. He added, “We do not only celebrate being the overall best private university in Uganda and in the East African region, but as a university we are impacting society through human capacity development; basic, applied, and interventional research and innovation; and expanding our services to communities around KIU establishments”. “Carry on my team”, he stated.

The Webometrics Ranking of the World's Universities uses both webometric (all missions) and bibliometric (research mission. The primary objective of the Ranking Web is to promote Open Access to the knowledge generated by universities.
