KIU, Main Campus - KIU Law students have promised to make Uganda proud at the International Humanitarian Law Moot Competition scheduled for 14th-21st November 2021. The team will set off for Naivasha on Sunday morning having emerged National champions in Uganda.

The International Humanitarian Law moot competition is an annual event organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) with an aim of arousing the interests of law students worldwide in matters to do with International Humanitarian Law.

Jonathan Areeba and Tabitha Kwagala both Law students at KIU are the only Ugandan team at this year's  International Humanitarian Law moot competition. They will meet teams from over eight countries from Anglophone Africa.

KIU beat 2015 African champions Makerere University, participants from Uganda Martyrs University (UMU), and Uganda Christian University (UCU) respectively before overcoming Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) in the finals to win the National Inter-University Moot Championship in September this year. This meant that the Explorers would be the team to represent Uganda at the All Africa competition in Naivasha and Arusha.

Having beaten former African champions Makerere University, UMU, UCU, and IUIU, KIU's chances of victory in this year's competition are rated highly. However, the team has promised to make the pearl of Africa proud.  

"We will represent Uganda in the ICRC -  International Humanitarian Law moot (IHL) and we are looking forward to winning. We are prepared enough," Jonathan Areeba told this website in a virtual interview.

The best team in this competition will represent Africa at the International level on a date yet to be disclosed.
