KIU, Western Campus – The office of the Guild Union at KIU Western Campus will tomorrow May 30 hold a memorial tree planting for the late Guild President Douglas Matovu.

Matovu perished in a fatal road accident on May 20 and was buried at their home in Masaka on May 22 in a burial that was widely graced by the KIU community.

This was communicated by the Union in a communiqué to all universities and institutions of higher learning signed by the Guild Vice-President Jean Nyakato Tumuheki and the Guild Speaker Brian Rwotomio.

“The late Douglas had a developmental manifesto and is well known for the various assistance he extended to the students’ community and beyond,” reads the communiqué in part.

“We hereby urge all the Guild governments of the various universities and higher institutions to join with us in tree planting (within and in neighbourhood of your various institutions) in memory of our late Guild president on Tuesday 30th May, 2023 starting 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM,” it adds.

The tree planting will be graced by the university administrators, teaching and non-teaching staff, students and the wider KIU western Campus community.
