KIU, Main Campus - The Vice Chancellor of Kampala International University, Dr. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo, has asked the government to lift the shutdown on social media if online learning is to be successful.

While speaking to a local media house, Dr. Mpezamihigo said the university is facing a big challenge in coordinating students using social media platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook.

Dr. Mpezamihigo added that the government should consider reinstating the use of social media if online teaching is to happen efficiently.

The Vice Chancellor's remarks came after the National Council for Higher Education last notified the universities and other institutions of higher learning of the government's plans to stay the re-opening of schools for all learners for the next three months.

Meanwhile, John Guest Kisembo, a fourth year law student at KIU, says the government should ensure that before the online teaching can kick off, all other social media platforms should also be functional for easy communications.
