KIU, Main Campus - With only three months in office as Guild Speaker, Mbabazi Angella is looking forward to organizing her house in relation to the national parliament. Despite drawing courage and much of her inspiration from her mother, she wants to do her things like Rt. Hon. Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.

Angella, who has so far chaired two Guild Union parliamentary sittings, is a strong admirer of Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga and the way she has managed the 9th and 10th parliaments. She admits that Kadaga has tremendously given hope to the women, with her inclusiveness.

"Surely Speaker Kadaga has empowered women with hope that it is possible for their voices to roam loudest. I am inspired a lot by the way she runs that Parliament," Angella admits.

She adds that it is due to a burning desire to be like Rebecca Kadaga that she ran for Guild Speaker.

"That was the only way to lay a foundation and I also realized that if Kadaga managed to be there, so could I,’’ she explains.

Apart from Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, Angella says her mother has played a great role in mentoring her not only into an ambitious leader but also to a lady of steel. She credits her mother’s persistence, resilience and faithfulness towards grooming her into an ambitious hardworking young leader.

"My mother is actually my greatest inspiration. Her love, faithfulness and most notably her resilience has always encouraged me to become a strong lady in life, that’s why I don’t entertain comfort and mediocrity," she says.

Though her responsibility rhymes with her passion, Angella has learnt that being a Speaker of Parliament is one of the most challenging tasks. She says that it calls for maximum concentration, high level of objectivity and a great deal of endurance.

"It requires one to be highly objective and able to endure criticism, ridicule and sometimes hardcore comments from members,’’ she admits.

Though this parliament is living in uncertainties caused by COVID-19 pandemic, Angella is confident they will leave a long lasting legacy of dexterity.

Who Is Angella Mbabazi

She is an ambitious 25-year-old lady. She is a final year student of law at Kampala International University. She loves serving people, especially as a voice for the voiceless.

"I am and I want to always be a voice for the voiceless,’’ Angella said during one of her campaign rallies in 2020.

She sat her Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) at Mbarara Municipal School from where she joined Rubaga Girls Secondary School to pursue the Uganda Certificate of Education. She then joined Seeta High School for A ‘Level for a year before completing high school education at Namirembe Hillside Secondary School whence she attained the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) in 2016.

Angela joined KIU in August 2017 to pursue a Bachelor of Laws and since then the rest is history. In November, 2020, she contested and won a slot to represent the School of Law in the KIU Guild Union Parliament from where she was elected to lead the house as the speaker a few days after.

Prior to becoming Guild Parliamentary Speaker, Angella had served in several other leadership positions during her education journey. She served as health prefect at Rubaga Girl’s Secondary School and a head prefect at Namirembe Hillside Secondary School.

At KIU, Angella has served in the Law Society as General Secretary, 2019-2020 and a class coordinator of her intake from their inception up to present.

She is looking forward to becoming a practicing lawyer in the near future and a formidable personality in national politics.
