KIU, Main Campus - After only 8 months since joining KIU on a Master’s in Project Planning and Management course, Mohammad Moulid is grateful that his expectations are still unhinged despite the uncertainties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

When Moulid left Somalia for Uganda in 2019, he hoped to join a university that would elevate his intellectual and social standing - one with exquisite international repute and a conducive learning environment. 

He decided to join KIU primarily due to the university's consistent international reputation with world-class academic programs and infrastructure.  

Consultations with his countrymates who had gone through KIU convinced him to enroll for a master’s degree in Project Planning and Management in January 2021.

"I decided to join KIU because of the quality of its academic programs which I consider one of the best in Africa," Moulid discloses.

"Also, my friends from Somalia who succeeded through KIU could tell me that the university offers one of the most marketable educational programs all over the world and that it has highly experienced lecturers," he adds.

And it is so far so good for Moulid.

"All my expectations are still positive, only that COVID-19 and the lockdown affected me in a very bad way. It has stopped my future plans including finishing the university as soon as I can.  It has also affected me financially," he explains.

"Apart from a good and friendly environment at KIU, I have been attending lectures, meeting the best lecturers who are not only knowledgeable but also so considerate and understanding. They try to make every student understand their content. This helps us who don't understand English very well," he adds.

However, Moulid is confident that the COVID-19 pandemic will eventually come to an end such that everything can get back to normal. 

He is looking forward to contributing actively towards the development of his home community back in Somalia upon completion of his Master's degree. 

Moulid also harbours dreams of doing his Ph.D. at KIU.
