On 24th, May 2023, the Vice Chancellor of Kampala International University, Professor Mpezamihigo Mouhamad, hosted a delegation from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ife, Nigeria. The two-member delegation comprised of; Professor Olusanjo Matthew Daramola Abayomi, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in Charge of Administration at OAU. Professor Ganiyu Adesola Aderounmu, the Director Africa Centre of Excellence (ACE) of OAU.
The two top administrators were in Uganda as part of the 7-member team from OAU, who facilitated at the 5-Day Cyber Security Workshop held at the Islamic University in Uganda, from 22nd to 26th May 2023. The workshop was also attended by 6 members of Staff from KIU.
The Vice-Chancellor welcomed the visitors and expressed the interest of KIU to partner with OAU.
He also thanked the OAU for their wonderful capacity-building programmes, citing the expertise of some of the staff members under the Technical Aid Corps (TAC) program, a program that KIU continues to benefit from.
“You are most welcome to Uganda, and to KIU in particular. We are particularly privileged to associate with OAU, a top University in Nigeria. Some of our TAC members have trained from OAU, and have gone on to make an impact at KIU”, said the Vice Chancellor, Professor Mouhamad.
On his part, the DVC of OAU thanked the Vice Chancellor KIU, for welcoming them and expressing interest in collaboration with OAU.
“OAU is very happy to discuss with KIU on collaboration and partnership areas of mutual interest. We are indeed very open to exploring the various opportunities for collaboration, between our two great Universities”, said Professor Daramola.
Also attending the meeting were; Dr Sophia Kazibwe, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Affairs. Dr. Hashim Ibrahim Bisallah, the Director Research Innovation Consultancy and Extension (RICE). Dr Umar Yahya, from the Centre of Excellence for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CoEEI). Mr Oluwole Afolabi, the Website Manager. Mr Obinna Osigwe, KIU’s Digital Marketing Head.
The Directorate of RICE was tasked to follow up this discussion with the OAU team and ensure that the KIU-OAU engagement comes to life as envisaged during the discussion.
The visiting team was then taken around KIU Campus.
“You say you only started about 22 years ago, but you are clearly a visible giant. These amazing structures and the systems in place can only be a result of a visionary leader at KIU”, remarked Professor Daramola, as he toured KIU’s IBM Library Building and the various offices it is hosting.
