KIU, Western Campus c��?? Kampala International University Teaching Hospital has warned the public, including students of KIU not to be distracted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and forget about the danger posed by other health conditions.

This follows the increase in malaria-related fevers at the hospital, with a positivity rate of up to 15% in the last month, a relatively high rate.

The Principal Nursing Officer (PNO) of the hospital, Sr Elizabeth Kamahoro, who is also the malaria focal person in Bushenyi district, delivered this warning in a memo circulated to all hospital staff.

c��?We have noted with concern that amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a possibility of the increase in other health conditions which are equally a danger to human life,c⬝ Sr Kamahoro wrote.

c��?Letc��?cs keep focused as we deliver services to our communities not forgetting that there are other illnesses,c⬝ she added.

Sr Kamahoro also lauded the hospital medical staff for their continued efforts in containing malaria and other epidemics, saying they serve as a great example to health care workers everywhere, as well as students aspiring to be the next generation of health care workers.

The 23rd Health Sector Joint Review Mission in 2018 ranked KIU Teaching Hospital among the top four hospitals in the country, and among the criteria for the rankings was staffing levels and service delivery.
