KIU, Main CAMPUS-The final between Maraga and Co-advocates and Fatou Bensouda is underway at KIU’S student’s high court, ‘The moot court’. Both teams came into today’s court session with maximum poise for victory.

The two teams are deliberating on a high court case (Uganda vs Alfred Kidega Godfrey) in which Maraga representing the DPP’S office are the prosecutor while Fatou Bensouda are on the defence side. In the case, the accused was sentenced to 27 years in prison for allegedly killing a baby.

While the prosecutor argues that the sentence should be increased to life imprisonment, the appellant wants everything revised and the sentence lessened.

Fatou Bensouda’s managing Partner, Byakika Sylvestor says that his team is ready to better their previous performance in today’s final.

‘’I believe we are going to proceed with victory and I am confident enough that we are capable of winning with around 80%. I am not scared of Maraga, they prove no competition against us,’’ he said.

Justice Ochieng, the Coordinator, Maraga and co- advocates said that the fact that his team managed to reach the finals is enough to celebrate.

‘’My team comprises of very fresh minds. These are students in year two and year three, unlike our opponents who have members already in practice. For us reaching finals is already a big achievement and as I said, this is a learning experience, the competition here may not matter much but what you get from it matters a lot out there,’’ he said.

The proceedings are expected to end at 2 pm after which winners will be announced and awards given accordingly.
