KIU, Western Campus – Tuesday March 8 was International Women’s Day. People all over the world took the day off to appreciate the woman and everything she stands for.

Similarly, here at KIU, we celebrate some of the women making a difference at the very top of the university management hierarchy.

Prof. Janice Desire Busingye, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance and Administration)

Prof. Janice Desire Busingye is the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration/University Secretary) at Kampala International University (KIU), with more than seven years experience in supervising all the service units of the university to ensure that they deliver quality and timely services to students and other clients/partners, whilst ensuring that all policies of the University are implemented according to agreed guidelines and procedures. She is also the Secretary to the University Council.

Prof. Busingye holds a PhD in Education and a Masters in Education, majoring in Adult and Community Education, both from the University of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa. Her basic training was at Makerere University where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Adult and Community Education. 

She has published articles in various journals engagement like the Journal of Infection and Public Health, and the Journal of Asian and African Studies, specifically on the politics of knowledge sharing, higher education, primary education, and community. She has also presented a paper at the International Congress on Hidden Hunger in Stuttgart Germany, entitled: “Confronting the disjuncture between theory and reality of hidden hunger: Experiences of Ugandan mothers", and many others. In August 2020, she was elected to the Board of Directors of the Research and Education Network of Uganda (RENU).

While being selected for this role, RENU said this about Dr. Busingye, “We needed someone who can be committed and can sacrifice their time but also someone with the expertise for the role,”

Prof. Lydia Emuron, Assistant Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance and Administration) – KIU Western Campus     

Associate Professor Lydia Emuron is the Assistant Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration) of the Western Campus of Kampala International University. She has been working in this capacity since 2018, bar a short period between August and December 2021, when she briefly acted as the interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor for the Western Campus.

She holds a PhD in Management, Masters of Management Studies, Postgraduate Diploma in Education, Bachelor of Business studies, Bachelor of Science, Certificate in Administrative Law and a host of other job enhancement certificates.

She has risen through the academic ranks of Higher Education as Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer, Senior Lecturer to her current as Associate Professor in the College of Economics and Management.

Prof. Emuron has a vast experience in management across both academic and institutional management spheres at both National and International level. 

She is very popular with students because of her soft spoken nature and motherly touch she applies while dealing with students’ issues.

Apart from these two top administrators, KIU has a number of several other women in leadership capacities. 

The Chief Executive Officer of KIU Teaching Hospital, the Director of Marketing and Public Relations, the Human Resource Managers of the Main Campus, Western Campus and KIU Teaching Hospital, the Chief Librarian at main campus, the Campus Administrators of both campuses, The Director of Finance Western Campus, the Hospital Administrator, KIU Teaching Hospital and a number of Deans are all women.
