Today is World Sports Journalists Day, where sports journalists all over the world are celebrated for their passion, commitment and sacrifice in covering sports events.

Today, we at Kampala International University editorial team celebrate our very own Isaac Akugizibwe, who covers the sports events at KIU, especially the flagship university sports teams KIU Titans, KIU Rangers and the KIU football team.

Isaac, who unsurprisingly calls himself ‘Pele’ after Brazilian football icon Edison Arantes do Nascimento, has loved sports since his childhood and it was no coincidence that after joining KIU as a student, he was drawn to the sports fraternity.

Isaac, then a Mass Communication student, was privileged to join the Kampala Giraffe Times (KGT) team, which writes for the university newspaper, the Giraffe Times.

He consequently joined the KIU editorial team as a contributing writer for the university website, and he took no time in showing interest in covering the sports events for the university.

Isaac has covered all the sports events at KIU but notably, he has covered the university football team in the University Football League (UFL) and the KIU Titans and KIU Rangers basketball teams in the National Basketball League.

He has had the privilege of interviewing some of the sports stars including Faisal Aden, Ariel Okall and Dennis Balungu, among others.

Despite sports being suspended due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Uganda, we are sure Isaac will be raring to go when action resumes.

Isaac ‘Pele’ Akugizibwe, we at the KIU editorial team wish you a happy Sports Journalists Day!
