Moses Kiboneka, an actor, comedian, and engineer has advised KIU students to always share their skills and things they do with friends first for feedback. He said this during the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) career expo 2023 which was held on April 25th, 2023, at KIU Main Campus University Main Hall in Kansanga.

The event organized under the theme "Succeeding in the Gig Economy" aims to offer a platform for students to network and learn from established industry practitioners for career advice, and personal growth as well as extend opportunities to land internship and practice opportunities.

According to Kiboneka, it's okay to not be perfect as a beginner in the Gig economy.

" You should understand that you are just a beginner so it is very okay to not be perfect in your first work but consistency and persistence do the trick," he said.

"Never hide the things you have done, always speak to someone because they may save you, and also be ready to be exploited because this happens everywhere all you have to do is recover what you have lost," added Kiboneka.

The guest speaker Prossy Kayeny Mwesige, who is a Human Resource and Customer Experience Consultant, said that getting into the gig economy only needs one to have a clear mindset.

"We can tap into anything in the Gig Economy and the only thing you need is to have is a clear mindset that can help you achieve it," she said.

“Whatever you do, think of it as a wheel. Move forward and not backward. Don't fear failure, rather, fear being in the same exact place you were in last year,” she added.

The event included a question and answer session where the students got to ask the different speakers questions they want clarification on.

Since Curriculum Vitaes (CVs) are crucial during job hunts, the students were taken through a session on how to write good catchy CVS by Brighter Monday official.

The Campus Administrator M.s Judith Ariyo Bakakimpa

closed the event by thanking the speakers for the wise words and guidance they rendered to the students and wished they come again for more sessions.

She also advised students to always be available for these kinds of events that prepare them for life outside the campus but also come with an opportunity to network.

Other speakers at the event included Geoffrey Sajabi the Chief Commercial Officer at NSSF Uganda and  Muhereza Kyamutetera the Executive editor and CEO East African Magazine.

The 2023 NSSF Career Expo, is organized in partnership with ABSA Bank Uganda, Brighter Monday, and the African talent company.
